Malta’s game development community now has its own representative body. The Malta Game Developers Association (MGDA) formally launched at the GamingMalta gamescom mixer, marking a step forward for the country’s grassroots game-building talent.

The new organisation is developer-led and built specifically for the people making games in Malta. Its stated aims are practical: stronger collaboration across the sector, better representation, more knowledge-sharing, and a clearer collective voice for developers and creatives.

Launching at gamescom, one of the world’s largest gaming trade fairs, gives MGDA an immediate international platform. From day one, the association can bring Malta’s local developer perspective into global conversations.

Building relationships with studios, publishers and industry partners is a priority. MGDA intends to support its members while complementing GamingMalta’s broader mission to grow and promote the island’s gaming ecosystem.

GamingMalta has backed the initiative, describing it as a way to create better conditions for developers to build, grow and stay connected from Malta. Stronger local networks and greater visibility abroad are expected to help retain talent and attract new business.

For Malta’s business community, the launch signals a maturing sector that is organising itself for growth. A unified developer voice can improve the environment for studios both local and incoming, with potential knock-on effects for investment and employment.
