The Environment and Resources Authority has laid out a practical roadmap for hotels looking to cut their environmental footprint.

During a dedicated guidance session, ERA officers Marie Claire and Noelle walked tourism establishments through the regulator's core areas of work: waste management, biodiversity, air quality, and noise.

They detailed the legal obligations tied to each area and explained how these affect the environment. The focus then shifted to concrete measures and practices that hotels can weave into their day-to-day operations to reduce those impacts.

For Malta's hospitality sector, which relies heavily on its natural surroundings to draw visitors, this is not just a compliance exercise. Operational changes in waste sorting, energy use, noise control, and landscaping can directly affect a hotel's cost base and brand reputation.

The session signals that ERA expects the industry to move beyond one-off green certifications and embed sustainability into routine workflows. Hotels that adapt early may find themselves better positioned as both regulators and eco-conscious travellers tighten expectations.

ERA described the collaboration as part of its ongoing effort to strengthen sustainability and environmental protection across the board.
