The Warren Collection will contribute up to €400 towards additional work permit renewal costs for each eligible third-country national employee in its Malta operations from January 2027, the hotel group has announced.

The commitment gives a financial value to the company’s pledge to support international staff as changes announced in Malta’s Budget 2027 add to the costs associated with living and working on the island.

“We don’t believe our employees should have to face every new financial challenge alone”

The Budget measures include a new annual €400 infrastructure contribution for new applicants and people renewing their permits, with an exemption for those under 18. This is separate from the announced increase in the fee for a new work permit application, from €600 to €800.

The Warren Collection said its initiative was intended to ease the burden on employees, many of whom had moved to Malta leaving family and loved ones abroad. It credited international colleagues with supporting both its own guest experience and the wider hospitality industry.

“We don’t believe our employees should have to face every new financial challenge alone,” the company said in its announcement.

For hotel operators, assistance with the cost of remaining in employment can also have a commercial rationale. Helping experienced staff manage additional expenses may support retention and continuity of service, particularly where employees have already invested in relocating and building a life in Malta.

The group also plans to develop initiatives recognising exceptional service, alongside professional development opportunities and additional wellbeing support. These would extend its employee programme beyond the immediate contribution towards renewal costs.

With operations in Malta, Belfast and Newcastle, The Warren Collection linked the commitment to the role employees play in the success of its business, saying the quality of its guest experience depends on the people delivering it each day.

“Our employees look after our guests every day. We believe it is equally important that we look after them,” the company said.
