Izola Bank taps Edward Grech for finance and treasury after June exit

Edward Grech is set to take over as Izola Bank's Head of Finance and Treasury, pending regulatory approval and following Ali Geren's June resignation.
Izola Bank has moved to fill a key finance leadership vacancy, naming Edward Grech as Head of Finance and Treasury. The appointment is effective from 14 October 2026 and remains subject to regulatory approval. The bank disclosed the move on 16 October through a company announcement on the Malta Stock Exchange, under its obligations under the MFSA's Capital Markets Rules. Grech will take charge of financial management and treasury activities across the bank.
The role has been vacant since June, when Ali Geren resigned from the position. Geren had only taken up the post in January, making this a second leadership handover within a year.
Grech will also sit on the bank's Asset and Liability Management Committee. That committee oversees financial performance and manages risk tied to liquidity, funding and interest rates.
In its disclosure, Izola Bank said Grech has held no directorships over the past five years and has no principal business activities outside the bank. It also confirmed there were no further matters requiring disclosure under Capital Markets Rules 5.20.5 to 5.20.9.
No details were provided on Grech's professional background or on the expected timing of regulatory clearance. The absence of that information leaves the market to assess the appointment on the bank's disclosures alone.
For a listed bank, the finance and treasury seat carries outsized weight, shaping funding strategy and liquidity buffers at a time when interest rate conditions remain in focus. The pending approval means Izola's management team will continue operating with a designated successor in waiting, not yet confirmed in the role.
