Raiffeisen Bank International makes its play for Malta Stock Exchange membership

Raiffeisen Bank International has applied to join the Malta Stock Exchange, which would make it the second foreign bank to become a member.
Raiffeisen Bank International is moving to secure a seat on the Malta Stock Exchange. The Vienna-based banking group has filed an application through its Fixed Income & Derivatives department, according to exchange notice 2534 published on 29 September 2026.
The application now enters a notification period set out under MSE Bye-law 3.00.10. Admission is not automatic. Final approval rests with the exchange's board under Bye-law 3.00.11, and regulatory sign-off must follow. Trading would only start once those hurdles are cleared.
If successful, Raiffeisen would become the second foreign bank to join the Maltese marketplace, following Hypo-Bank Burgenland. That short list reflects a selective market, but it also suggests rising international interest in Malta as a trading venue.
The move could add depth to the fixed income and derivatives book, improving liquidity for local and international participants. It also signals that the exchange's push to attract overseas institutions is gaining traction, potentially encouraging other banks to follow.
The application remains pending board review and regulatory clearance. No timeline has been set, but the outcome will be closely watched by brokers, issuers, and investors who view Malta as a gateway for European capital flows.
